The Grass Is Greener Right In Front of You

I was speaking with a friend the other day and we were talking about how everyone is always looking for the next best thing in life.

This seems to always happen in your career and definitely in relationships. For some reason people are more prone to believe the grass is always greener on the other side. I can never understand why people can’t see that the grass is greener right in front of them. Is it due to the lack of gratitude?

Gratitude is Key in Securing Your Inner Peace

Gratitude. I believe if you are seeking to secure your inner peace it’s important to have gratitude and thankfulness. In a fast pace world it’s very easy for us to forget to stop and show appreciation for the things we have. Our minds are geared to think, “If only I had a job that paid more… If only I were born with a bottomless trust fund … If only I could afford a bigger house…if I had the perfect romantic partner…”

So many of us live in a perpetual state of wanting more money, more shiny new toys, more things in general. And we chase those possessions with more gusto than when we pursue what’s been empirically shown to increase happiness: more gratitude, more experiences, and more time. Sometimes, I experience moments of realization of how lucky I am for all that I have like my health, family, and friends. It’s like a cool wave of gratefulness washes over me, cleansing me of my worries, stress and problems. It has been proven that people who are grateful are happier, less depressed and less stressed. They feel like they are more in control of their lives and they have higher self-esteem. This is why it is extremely important to take some time to appreciate what you have, what you have achieved in life and how far you’ve come.

The Grass Is Greener – Tips to Appreciating What You Have:

  1. Stop comparing yourself to others

  2. Find gratitude in your challenges

  3. Be present and live in the moment

  4. Express your feelings

  5. Write down what you are grateful for daily

  7. Improve your happiness in other areas of your life

  8. Focus on your Faith & Beliefs

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – Thessalonians 5:16-18
